Breathing in Your Divinity
The purpose of Ascension is to meld together the energies of your human self with your Divine Self. This cannot be forced, and it cannot be hurried. It must be allowed to happen, rather than made to happen. And it will take place gently and gradually, probably over a number of years.
There are simple tools that you already have available to help you facilitate your Ascension process. More detailed information about these tools and techniques is coming soon in my upcoming e-book: "The Ascension Guidebook for Awakening Angels".
The first, and most important, tool for integrating your Divinity is the breath. Using the belly-breathing method outlined below you can consciously invite your Divine Self to merge with your human consciousness and become part of your daily human life.
I have created an 18-minute audio meditation for you called 'Breathing In Divinity' (get Link at bottom of this page). Listen to this as often as you like to help balance your emotions, release stress, unblock stuck energies and to help your Divine Self make its way back to you.
Breathing - deeply and consciously - is the most important thing you can do to advance your spiritual journey. I am not talking about meditation, as such. That is often a mind-driven activity, laden with judgements and expectations of how it should be done and what your experience should be. By all means, meditate if you enjoy it, but it is not necessary for integrating your Divinity.
Although breathing is something you already do all the time, and you may think it sounds simplistic, the importance of practising the Deep Conscious Breath cannot be overstated. Breathing is the absolute key to allowing the Ascension process to take place. It is crucial in allowing you to move energies which are stuck in the body, and in your life. Breathing offers you the means by which you can move out of a mind-driven reality and into a new spirit- and heart-focussed reality.
We are Divine and eternal beings who have chosen to focus our vast energies into a physical body. Picture an image of the shape of a tornado - we've all seen pictures of them - a huge funnel-shaped vortex of energy, enormously wide at the top and funnelling down to a much smaller point of energy where it touches the Earth.
This is the image I get when I try to imagine how we, as vast inter-dimensional beings, have narrowed the focus of our energies down into the point of reference called the human body. I get a sense of myself sitting here, with an enormous cone of energy spiralling up out of the top of my head. I see it as expanding upwards and outwards from this point of connection. It spreads upwards beyond the Earth and expands not just physically, but inter-dimensionally as well.
Such is the scale of magnitude by which we have narrowed the focus of our vast true self to squeeze into these human bodies!
The body is our experiential apparatus on Earth. It is the vehicle we have created for ourselves to experience physical life. Through it, we feel our feelings, process our thoughts and we physically build and create our reality. It is a truly marvellous and complex creation!
However, because of the dense, limiting and magnetic energies of Earth, what can happen is that energies, which should move and flow freely, can get stuck in the body.
Emotions and unresolved issues - where are they stored? In the cellular memory of the body, of course. Unwanted habits and feeling 'stuck in a rut' - where do these manifest? As feelings, such as fear and frustration, in the body.
Humans do have a strong tendency to get stuck in the roles we have created for ourselves. But we need to realise that the "stuckness", or frustration, we feel in our lives is simply stuck energy. We are literally holding onto energy within us, and that causes us to feel stuck.
We can free up these stuck energies and allow them to flow again, thereby helping ourselves to feel a whole lot better. The Ascension process requires that we stop being 'energy holders' and become 'energy movers'. And the simplest way of doing this is by using our breath.
We spend most of our lives breathing unconsciously and shallowly. The breath we need to develop that will facilitate our blossoming into our true Divine selves is always a deep, conscious breath. Breathing shallowly equates to holding on and resistance; while breathing deeply equates to letting go and allowing.
When we breathe deeply and consciously we are telling every cell of our being, "Yes, I choose Life!" This delivers a message of healing and rejuvenation to every aspect of our human existence. Shallow breathing is a slow process of suffocation - we are not sure if we want to truly live. We are often living in the past when we breathe shallowly.
When we inhale, we are not only breathing in air, we are also opening up new energetic pathways and enabling ourselves to access all the solutions and potentials that are available to us. It is we who created those potentials, long ago, to be called in at the appropriate time and in the most appropriate way - when we were ready.
Our human mind, the conscious mind, is limited - by our experience, our beliefs, our emotions and our expectations. The Divine Self is not limited and it has access to a wealth of knowledge that we can't yet conceive of. By breathing in and accessing our Divine Selves we bypass the limited human mind and invite into our lives potentials greater than we could have consciously dreamed of.
The Belly-Breathing Method
To check that you are breathing correctly, place your hands on your lower belly - your abdomen. Use the muscles of your abdomen like a bellows to pull the air in. Take a good, deep breath, drawing the air in as far as you can. Imagine you are pulling the air right down into your abdomen. As you breathe in, expand the belly. As you breathe out, let the belly collapse.
Many people feel confused about this, so make sure you are doing it correctly - feel with your hands to be certain: EXPAND as you breathe IN through the nose, and COLLAPSE as you breathe OUT through the mouth.
Of course, the air doesn't really go down into your abdomen, it stays in the lungs. But focussing on using the abdominal muscles to pull the air in and imagining it travelling deep into your belly will help you to take the deepest possible breaths. It is also the natural way to breathe that most of us have forgotten. This is the way a baby breathes. If you ever have the opportunity to see a little baby, watch its tummy bobbing up and down with every breath - it is breathing from the abdomen, not from the chest. The baby hasn't yet learned the patterns of fear that have caused us to breathe more and more shallowly as we grew older. Be like that little baby, practise your belly-breathing every day!
When you take a deep, conscious breath - really being aware of what you are doing - you allow your mind to rest. You can notice it for yourself right now. Stop reading for a minute and take a few deep breaths, pulling the breath right down into your abdomen. Each time you take a deep breath your mind takes a pause. It stops its chattering, thinking and judging. Can you notice that you cannot think or judge in the same moment as you are taking the breath?
Now feel that moment between the in-breath and the out-breath, just pause for a short moment before breathing out. What do you notice? Stillness? Peace? Potential? God? Hard to define, isn't it.
The words and the definitions will probably be different for each one of us; and words are limiting anyway, they are the domain of the mind. One thing is for sure - we can never find God through the mind. Divinity is the domain of the heart and the feelings. We need to practise letting our minds rest for a while so that we can have these moments of touching the Divine. We can learn to live for these moments.
It's not easy to define or translate experiences of the spirit into physical language. There is no standard dictionary that can translate the two. Sometimes things can only be experienced, and not learned from a book.
Don't worry if you don't have any specific experience or feeling when you begin taking deep, conscious breaths. I had been using the deep breath for years before I noticed the transcendent feelings I've just described. The point is to begin doing it, whenever you can remember to do it. It will help you to invite and allow your Divinity to reunite with your human self, gently, one breath at a time.
Deep breathing also allows for the easy shifting and flowing of energies in the body. When an emotional blockage has occurred, tune into the feelings and allow them to surface, all the time breathing fully and deeply. This will facilitate the shifting and clearing of those blocked energies.
Never be afraid to let your feelings come up. Some people block their feelings because they fear they will be overwhelmed by them, swept away by the tide of emotion. But, if you will accept that the feeling is there, allow yourself to feel it honestly, and breathe deeply while you are feeling it, you'll find that the energy will shift quite easily and quickly.
So breathe. Whenever you feel stuck, breathe. Whenever you feel trapped in old habits or belief systems that no longer serve you, breathe. Whenever you feel strong emotions like fear, anger, overwhelm, etc, breathe. Whenever you need an answer to a question, breathe. Whenever you can think of it, breathe.
It is amazing how refreshed and rejuvenated you can feel after just a few minutes of belly breathing. So breathe, and enjoy the physical benefits, as well as enabling your spiritual unfoldment and facilitating your Divine Self's joyful reunion with your human self.
